Design aesthetic is the premise behind the July 2008 calendar. Guest curator, Tim Newton, is a dedicated and enthusiastic collector. He is the founder and curator of "American Masters at SCNY," an annual exhibition. For the July calendar, the process was daunting. Over 600 artworks were submitted and Tim deliberated over each choice. Long and careful is a good description of his afternoon's work. His selections are notable for the variety of approaches and their consistently strong images.

Tim selected 31 pieces by 26 artists mindful of the curator's guidelines. "Good design," he said during a break, "Is the major factor."
